About the Fire House

Since 1975 the Landmark family has been seeking to honor God in Montgomery, Alabama.  Our church family, currently about 1400 members, is a blended family of people from all walks of life and experiences.  We have an intense desire to be real and relational in our walk with Christ.  Our aim is to live for Jesus Christ and share him with others.  We hope to accomplish this through Adoring God, Belonging to Family, Caring for the World, and Discipling Others.  One of the most important ways we develop relationships is through our small groups ministry.

Our ministry staff includes: Buddy Bell, Paul Evans, Jon Owen, Al Millergren, Mark Loudermilk, Wes Gunn, Nathan Capps, Gail Durden, Jeremy Bagwell, and Hannah Vest.

The Landmark youth ministry is for 7th-12th grade students.  Our teen room is called The FireHouse and is located on the second floor of our church building.  “Fire House” also refers to our weekly time of worship, teaching, and fellowship on Wednesday evenings.  This is the biggest night for our group and our numbers frequently surpass 100.  One important goal is to always make the Fire House a place of love and acceptance.  We also have an active Life Group program on Sunday evenings that takes place in the Life Center.  The Life Center is a beautiful facility with a full-size gym, recreation area, an indoor track and weight room, a library, and classroom space.  Our teens are blessed to be able to take advantage of the Life Center throughout the year for Life Group, worship nights, and special activities.

Like most youth ministries, the summer is the climax of the year.  Our trips and activities include Kidnap Breakfast, Nashville Work-camp, Impact at Lipscomb, Inner-City Montgomery, City of Angels
in Cozumel Mexico, and Six Flags in Atlanta.  During the school year our main events consist of Fall Retreat, Revolve Tour, New Year’s Celebration, Leadership Retreat, and Guys and Girls Retreats.

Our youth ministry is not only strongly supported by our eldership and staff, but is well-integrated into the whole church.  There has been a full-time female youth minister on staff for the past eleven years.  Hannah Vest is currently working part-time with the youth and a female student intern is also employed.  During the summer, we employ two full-time youth interns.  There are four youth deacons and a strong support team of parents who work closely with our ministry - chaperoning trips, leading life groups, and driving buses.

10 Core Principles

for 7th-12th Graders:

1. The importance of a “personal” relationship with God.
        A. Bible reading and application of the Word
        B. Prayer and the power of it through faith

2. Identity in Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit
- My main desire in life is to journey through who I am in Jesus Christ and to use His Spirit for His Glory.  We are to Reflect His Glory so our teens will fall in love with him and have the desire and passion to serve him.  Therefore, as the Spirit indwells and empowers us to be like Christ, may we live this through the lens of Ephesians 3:20 and expect God to use us in mighty ways!

Goals for 2010
Landmark Youth Ministry

**We hope to be a place of Love & Acceptance operating under the Glory of the New Covenant

2 Corinthians 3:7-18- Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold. We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to keep the Israelites from gazing at it while the radiance was fading away. But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away. Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
